Medical Director
Dr. Sarah Dougherty was born in Northern California but grew up in Southern Oregon where she trained and showed Arabian horses. Her grandparents (he a human physician and she a registered nurse) instilled a love of medicine and learning from a very young age. After years of ride alongs with her hometown equine veterinarian, Dr. Dougherty never really considered another profession. Dr. Dougherty joined Willowbrook Veterinary Hospital in 2023 because of the strong philosophy of coordinated care and client education.
Dr. Dougherty graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007, after which she returned to Oregon to complete an Equine Surgery Internship and Residency. She made the change to small animal medicine in 2009 and enjoys building strong relationships with her clients to keep pets vibrant and strong, so families can enjoy life together. Dr. Dougherty is a member of the Portland Veterinary Medical Association, Oregon Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Animal Hospital Association. She is also a certified Pet Nutrition Coach.
Dr. Dougherty and her husband have two labs (Axe & Maizy) and a spicy calico cat named Cascadia Rose. Outside of the office, Dr. Dougherty plays soccer, competing in international tournaments with her women’s team. She also spends time running and hiking with Axe (pictured). If the Timbers or Thorns are in town, you’ll find her cheering for the home team.
